Questions and answers

1. IS HOMEOPATHY A SAFE AND EFFECTIVE THERAPY METHOD FOR, FOR EXAMPLE, CHILDREN, PREGNANT WOMEN AND ELDERLY PEOPLE?

Homeopathic therapy is both effective and safe if the treatment process is led by a homeopathic doctor who understands the nature of the disease and pathophysiological processes and is also familiar with the drug therapy of classical medicine. Homeopathic preparations are prescribed according to strictly defined laws and principles of homeopathy, which are described in the “Organon of the Medical Art”. During therapy, the patient’s subjective and objective condition is monitored. This method of therapy is called the classical method of homeopathy, with which the best and deepest results can be achieved. Homeopathic medicines never have side effects - that is, they do not have a negative effect on other organ systems and they cannot be poisoned unless self-medication occurs.

2. WHAT ARE HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES MADE FROM, WHERE CAN THEY BE OBTAINED AND HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?

Homeopathic remedies are made from plant, mineral, and animal substances, and less commonly from some other substances. The names are usually in Latin and are followed by a number indicating the degree of dilution. The higher the number, the faster and deeper the remedy will work. The number is usually preceded by the letter d (10-fold dilution) or c (100-fold dilution).

For example - plant kingdom - Pulsatilla pratensis c 200 (meadow pasque flower, c 200 dilution). Often the second Latin word is not written if the first is the only such preparation.

Homeopathic preparations are usually in the form of granules (made on the basis of milk sugar), less often as alcohol or water solutions. If the preparation is used externally - then as ointments or suppositories.

Homeopathic medicines in Latvia can be purchased at the Riga Homeopathic Pharmacy here

Homeopathic doctors usually buy their own medicines from abroad, I do it here.

There you can purchase not only individual preparations, but also home first aid kits, which are very important in acute situations for children and when traveling.

Homeopathic medicines generally cost relatively less than conventional medicine.

3. ARE HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES COMPLICATED TO USE?

The use of homeopathic medicines differs in acute and chronic cases of illness.

However, there are common general principles:

1. The medicine should be taken on an empty stomach and sucked under the tongue (if it is a tablet). A single dose is usually 2-6 tablets.

2. During therapy, antidotes such as caffeine and peppermint (including menthol) should not be used.

Acute cases - usually the frequency of use depends on the potency (number after the name). For example, c12-2 times a day, c30-1 time a day, c200-single dose. The condition is monitored during the day and the therapy is reviewed, because each disease has stages of development with different manifestations. The same dose can also be used in an aqueous solution, which is usually used in pediatric practice. Then the child drinks in small sips. Before each use, it is advisable to shake the solution to activate it.

Chronic cases - usually single doses are used at a certain interval of 7-40 days. There are several stages in the course of therapy, which are necessary so that the symptoms of the disease not only disappear, but also do not return

4. CAN ALLOPATHIC MEDICINES BE USED IN PARALLEL WITH HOMEOPATHIC THERAPY?

Yes, you can use it. Often, during homeopathy therapy or in parallel with chronic diseases, the therapy that has been prescribed previously should also be used. This is especially important in the treatment plan for oncological diagnoses and chronic autoimmune diseases, when a person uses replacement therapy with insulin, hormones, asthma inhalers, cytostatic and antihypertensive drugs. During therapy, the dose is reduced or canceled when the subjective and objective condition improves.

5. HOW LONG WILL HOMEOPATHIC MEDICINES WORK?

The duration of action of a homeopathic preparation depends on

5.1. Potencies of the preparation. The higher the potency, the longer the effect. For example, c 200 will work for up to 40 days, c 1000 for up to 3 months.

5.2. Sometimes the effect of a medication can be overridden by an external factor - dental anesthesia, vaccination, antibiotics, another illness or a severe stressful situation.

5.3. The patient's health status, severity of the disease, concomitant medications. For example, if the patient takes hormone therapy every day (e.g. Medrol 4 mg), then the medication will most likely also need to be taken every day.

6. WHY SHOULD I USE HOMEOPATHY AT ALL WHEN MODERN MEDICINE AND DIAGNOSTICS ARE HIGHLY DEVELOPED?

There are several aspects why homeopathy is a unique opportunity to improve your health and quality of life.

6.1. The effect of homeopathy is based on the laws of nature. Therefore, it can cause reactions in the body that do not occur when using allopathic medicines. Therefore, it is a harmless and effective additional therapy mechanism.

6.2. In the case of chronic diseases, there are sometimes hopeless situations when nothing helps or there is no improvement for years. Since the cause of the disease is often not clear and the suffering continues, homeopathy can be a support for the patient to feel like a human spiritual being and be able to live a functionally full life.

6.3. Medications often have side effects, especially when multiple medications are used. Homeopathic therapy can reduce the amount and dosage of medications.

6.4. In pediatric practice, homeopathy in acute situations can easily and quickly resolve the problem without other intervention, if homeopathic therapy is monitored and general advice is followed - hydration, regimen, diet, rest.

7. IS THE HOMEOPATHIC THERAPY METHOD SCIENTIFICLY BASED?

Since the essence of homeopathy is the self-regulation of the body's energy, the evidence, claims, and physical visualization of the result under a microscope are still in the development stage. Just as it was once claimed that the world rests on three whales or that a molecule is the smallest material particle of matter.

The scientific evidence in homeopathy differs from that in allopathic medicine in two main ways: 1. Patients with the same diagnosis are not given the same medicine 2. Response to medicine is assessed individually and in relation to the health of the whole organism, not just one symptom. Therefore, evidence-based medicine studies cannot be directly compared with homeopathic studies.

At a meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences on December 11, 2012, academician Alexander Konovalov made a statement on the results of the research "Origin of nanoscale molecules in highly diluted solutions". These aggregates of nanoscale molecules were called nanoassociates and are formed under the influence of an external electromagnetic field, and thus these solutions cause unexpected bioeffects. Thus, a scientific justification has been found for preparations used in ultra-low (homeopathic) doses.

The Swiss government has included homeopathy in the National Health Insurance system as of January 1, 2012 and has recognized it as a safe and effective treatment method.

In Latvia, homeopathic therapy can be practiced by a doctor who has a medical diploma and a certificate in the additional specialty of homeopathy. The website of Latvian homeopaths homeopatija.lv

However, attempts to prove the biophysical nature of the substance of a homeopathic preparation in the human body are underway, and I would like to share some of them. 1. K. Linde et al. Are the Clinical Effects of Homoeopathy Placebo Effects? A Meta-analysis of Placebo-Controlled Trials (The Lancet, 1997) – concluded that homeopathic medicines show a 2.45 times greater positive effect than placebo
