Three Principles of Homeopathy
1. Like Cures Like
A disease can be cured by a substance that produces similar symptoms in a healthy person.
Example: A homeopathically prepared remedy from onion, Allium cepa, can cure allergic conjunctivitis and runny nose because it presents the exact same symptoms—watery eyes and a thin, runny nasal discharge.
2. The Principle of the Minimum Dose
The main components of preparing a homeopathic remedy involve a series of successive dilutions and shaking (succussions), a process known as potentization. This results in a homeopathic medicine that stimulates the body's energy, or what S. Hahnemann termed the "vital force," thereby initiating the therapeutic process within the body.
Disturbances in energy circulation mark the onset of a disease, and objective diagnostic methods often cannot detect it at this stage. It is easier to understand this concept in terms of boosting immunity, which subsequently determines the overall set of biochemical reactions occurring within the body.
3. An Individualized Approach to Therapy
Every human body is unique—in appearance, temperament, mindset, genetics, and predisposition to specific illnesses. Therefore, even for individuals with the same diagnosis, treatment varies. A single, specific homeopathic remedy must be carefully selected based on the current stage of the illness to achieve a result with the deepest and most lasting effect. Combination, ready-made homeopathic remedies only possess a symptom-modulating effect rather than a curative one. For example, while treating knee pain, the pain might decrease, but headaches that have never occurred before may begin.
What Can Be Treated with Homeopathy?
Homeopathic therapy is safe and harmless when prescribed by a doctor according to the laws of homeopathy. This means that the therapy never causes side effects (it does not cure one thing while harming another).
As with any medical condition, therapy is available for both acute states and chronic illnesses. From birth to the final day of life.
The most common question from patients is: "Will you cure me?" The answers always vary, as the duration and severity of the illness, medication use, genetics, and lifestyle differ for every individual. Since homeopathy regulates the body's own ability to handle the problem, it is the best and most precise natural way of healing.
1. Psychological and Emotional Disorders
Vegetative dystonia, sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, epilepsy, schizophrenia, alcoholism.
The best results are achieved by patients whose illness has started recently, who have organized their external living conditions, and who take fewer than three medications. The minimum duration of therapy is 6 months.
2. Endocrine Disorders
Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), diabetes mellitus, infertility, menstrual cycle disorders. Homeopathic therapy improves not only general well-being but also lab results, allowing patients to reduce or discontinue their doses of hormonal medications.
3. Systemic Diseases
Rheumatoid or juvenile arthritis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes mellitus, digestive and bowel disorders. These diagnoses involve autoimmune changes and/or affect multiple body systems. Therapy is long-term, often combined with conventional medications. Homeopathy helps improve the quality of life and reduce medication dosages.
4. Cardiovascular Diseases
Arterial hypertension, dizziness, headaches, cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure, atherosclerosis.
5. Acute and Chronic Respiratory Diseases and Allergies
Colds, otitis, conjunctivitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia. Allergic rhinitis, neurodermatitis, bronchial asthma.
History of Homeopathy
The founder of homeopathy is Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann—a physician, chemist, linguist, and scientist (1755–1843). He developed the method of homeopathic therapy based on the eternal laws of interaction between the human body and nature. On this foundation, he established a system of medicine based on newly discovered principles regarding the therapeutic action of substances and specific laws governing how it works within the human body to heal it.
The first publication in a medical journal appeared as early as 1796, but S. Hahnemann's fundamental work is the "Organon of the Medical Art" (Organon der rationellen Heilkunde), the first edition of which was published in 1810, spanning 6 editions in total.
In Latvia, both S. Hahnemann’s classical homeopathy and modern traditional homeopathic technologies (which are also utilized in Latvia) are officially approved. According to the Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 306 (dated May 8, 2006), a homeopath is a regulated medical profession with the occupational code 2221 83.
